Renowned artist and designer Matt Locke makes three-dimensional map art in wood, metal, and mixed media. Drafting by hand in Illustrator, Matt creates his own maps from scratch, then uses computer-guided machines to bring them to life. His latest commission is a two-story vision of the New York City subway for a private home under construction in Southern California. To inform his map art, Matt also photographs and works in photo-collage, playing on his interest in history, physics, evolution, French literature, and pop culture.
Matt holds a bachelor's degree in American history from Princeton University, studied fine art at the Savannah College of Art & Design, and industrial design at Chicago's Institute of Design (originally the New Bauhaus).
